Tom Pistone was kind enough to share with us the following two photos of our 1972 International Fleetstar 2110A, back when Billy Harvey owned it and used it to bring his Oldsmobiles to the 1979 Daytona 500. Pistone's grandfather, 'Tiger Tom' helped sponsor the team and later purchased the transporter. We purchased it from 'Tiger' in 2005.
On Thursday, February 15, 1979, Bruce Jacobi drove Billie Harvey’s #87 Steak N Shake / Fast Lane Ltd. Oldsmobile up from 29th starting position to finish 14th in qualifying race #1 for the 1979 Daytona 500.Despite the open wheel veteran’s fine showing, he was replaced on race day by Gary Balough, who was scheduled to be Harvey’s regular driver in the #87 ride. Balough started 27th , but his day ended on lap 53 when the Ft. Lauderdale native was involved in an accident with Joe Millikan, David Pearson and Skip Manning.
The #87 was raced again that summer by Balough at Daytona and Pocono, and also run by the late Dick May at Talladega. So why are we posting this? The Olds was carried in a certain Florida Blue 1972 International Fleetstar 2110A transporter. |
