We’re pleased to announce that KMPR’s 1972 All American Racers Eagle #7225 will be on the show field March 8th for the 25th Annual Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance held at the Ritz-Carlton of Amelia Island, Florida.
This will be the second visit for Eagle #7225 at the world-famous event. In 2014, KMPR presented the Eagle in the ‘Offy-powered Racers’ category, where it captured an Amelia Award. For the 2020 occasion, the car known for being Mark Donohue’s final USAC Indy car and Rick Mears’ first will be shown in a collection of cars in tribute to this year’s Amelia Island Concours Honoree, Roger Penske, who owned Eagle #7225 from April 1973 until it was sold to E.J. “Bill” Simpson heading into 1976. The event will mark the first showing of Eagle #7225 on a show field since the September 2016 Dayton Concours d’Elegance, where it was on display in a collection of the top placing cars in the history of Dayton’s then 10-year history as a Concours, as the Sunoco-DX Eagle received the 2011 Dayton Concours Col. Edward Deeds Judges Choice Award as well as Best In Class honors for ‘Indianapolis Cars.’ We look forward to our visit and are sure the Eagle will be a bright spot for many among the 100s of various machines displayed at the prestigious event. We had SCCA Central Division Head of Scrutineering Dave Kettler by the shop today to go over some of the recent work on Michael Argetsinger's Elden Mk10B- from some slight safety mods to ensuring that the plans going forward were up to vintage standards.
Dave was in favor of our alterations, so things are full steam ahead for this summer. Always great to have a friendly tech man in your region! Happy 2020! We've been rather busy since early December preparing our late friend Michael Argetsinger's 1973 Elden Mk10B for the upcoming race season.
Lots of new tubing in the final product, as well as an all-new rear bulkhead that Paul and Steve drew-up on-site, merging 1974 Mk10C blueprints and Steve's skill set in CAD. Had we followed the Mk10C prints, only about half of the bulkhead would have fit to the rails. We still have a bit of small additions to add to the rear of the chassis to make it race-worthy before the front bulkhead around the pedal box comes off, as it too had smacked something stationary at some point. We have a dummy Kent 711M met up with the Hewland Mk8 box to ensure the drive train will be pushing in the right direction. In doing so, we found that the engine mounts that came with the car were made up after it had been backed into something large and non-moving. Thus, we'll have to make new motor mounts to correct that now that the rear of the car is pointing straight again. In other news, new Elden Mk10B bodywork should soon be en route from the UK courtesy of Marchant & Cox, and the once-Rowland-built Kent Ford is currently being reworked by Advanced Engine Concepts in Green Lake, Wisconsin. 2020 marks five years since we lost Michael, though it feels like yesterday. We're doing everything we can to make the Elden not only 'right' but also so that it is quick and safe. With the amount of work to do and our already busy schedule, expect the Elden to roll out mid-way through the season carrying the colors of the American Express Racing Team, as it did in 1973. |
