There are things you pick up when looking at old photographs of race cars. In year A, it may have been in this color; year B, it had this roll hoop; year C, its had steel wheels; year D, driver sported swell looking mustache, etc.
Case in point, this photo of the 1959 Martin Tanner T-2 at Road America in 1960. We know it is 1960 as it was the first year of ownership by Frank Isaacson, but still retained Tanner's plum paint scheme. We know it is Isaacson and not Tanner as it is car #33 and not Tanner's #98. We know it is not 1961, as the car was repainted orange for the new year. ...and thus, a transitional year. Same car, same color, new owner, new number. A tale as old as time. Now if I could just find a photo from Meadowdale in 1960 when none other than Sandy MacArthur drove the car in a one-off appearance in Issacson's new ride! A special thanks to Eve Pribel for sending this photo of her father at-speed along with many others that I'll be sprinkling in throughout the New Year. |
