Today, we say goodbye to Don's DB2/4 MkIII, the last vehicle we kept warm for his estate.
You'll soon find it for sale at the RM Sotheby's auction coming up in Hershey, Pennsylvania. One of 82 LHD MkIII examples, this car was once owned by Bobby Darin and had a complete mechanical overhaul before Don's passing two years ago. Every new beginning comes from some other beginning's end... We just entered the up-coming VSCDA Elkhart Lake Vintage Festival with Michael Argetsinger's Elden PH10B. For the second year in a row, the Elden will be sporting the #121, as #21 was taken.
During the summer of 1973, the car sported #411, #1, #208, #21, #245, #18, #73, #115, #118 and #117, so simply adding a '1' to the car isn't that big of a deal all things considered. And as always, thank you to our friends at Foerster Signs for helping us with all of our vinyl and pinstriping needs. Something came to my attention today...
The decal placement from this photo from 1978 matches the remnant residue and old decals that still exist on the panels of our ex-AAR trailer. So it housed David Loring's factory Eagle in 1978. It probably made the trek to Road Atlanta in 1978. It witnessed the end of something very special. But that wasn't the end, just the initial flame being tempered. With the progress our squad has made in very short order, we don't see why it won't be housing another AAR Eagle DGF in 2025. A certain DGF that in many ways carries the torch of AAR on the track, and is the heartbeat of our team. It's always an honor and a privilege to breathe new life into these pieces of the past. Soon: sandblasting, slight repair and primer, updated lights and brakes, new wheels and tires, and picking a period livery. Stay tuned. We deskinned the AAR trailer this week at our alternate shop- it has absolutely great bones for a 51-year-old trailer. It would, its an AAR creation.
It'll be on the road in 2025. |
