The start of last Saturday's VFF Pre-Final. Oddly enough, by the drop of the checkered flag Sunday morning, the cars starting on the inside row in this shot would finish 1-2-3.
I'm glad we could get the only Elden at the track on the podium. The Elden fraternity includes some great people, and the Hampsheir family deserves all the best for their great creations. [Phil Schroeder Photo] The 1963 SCCA Chicago Region June Sprints turned out to be a good day for Martin Tanner and his Martin T-5 H-Modified.
I will admit though, the tiny aluminum and fiberglass car looks rather tiny in the mixed class practice session photo. By the way, it was clocked at 127 mph headed into turn 5 that year... [Dave Friedman Photos / The Henry Ford Collection] Thanks to @i.am.mjm_studio for capturing this gridshot of Reid and I before his feature last Sunday.
Since 2016, the Eagle DGF has finished 1st, 2nd, 2nd, 2nd, 2nd, 2nd and now 2nd again at the WIC. We're consistent, but getting faster with every outing! Reid pushed the car faster than it has ever gone, and also took great care of it- and for that, we thank him endlessly. He also helped me keep my personal promise to Dan Gurney to keep the DGF flying. Anyone who saw him charge to the front can agree he did just that. Tim created this wonderful piece of artwork that was auctioned off and raised $1,900 for the Historic Racing Circuits group. No doubt the hybrid image at the bottom of a certain Elden and Michael Argetsinger at Zolder in 1973, coupled with the old RA Billy Mitchell bridge helped that sum!
Reid went P2 with the Eagle today in Club Ford.
Two podiums today with two historic cars packed with history. Its an honor to run these cars, and today, to be joined by a great friend who is immensely talented, who understood the weight and significance of the Eagle and to allow him to fly it freely... well, that was something I'll never forget. |
