We've entered our 1977 All American Racers Eagle DGF #005 and our 1973 Elden PH10B #140/1 - AM73-49 for the Weathertech International Challenge in July.
Seeing as both cars race in Group 4, we've again entrusted driving duties for the Eaglet to resident speedster Reid Hazelton for the Club Ford category, which should be hotly contested. I will be piloting the Elden in the Vintage Formula Ford class, where it has proved to be rather potent, albeit sideways. Excelsior! On June 20-22 we'll have Kettle Moraine Preservation & Restoration's 1972 All American Racers Eagle #7228 back at Road America with Vintage Indy in conjunction with the NTT Indycar Series' XPEL Grand Prix.
The following Friday and Saturday, #7228 will be at the Milwaukee Mile for the Miller Meet, courtesy of the Harry Miller Club. It'll be the first time #7228 will be at The Mile since August 1, 1982, when Rick DeLorto failed to qualify the car for the Tony Bettenhausen 200. The son of a former driver of AAR Eagle #7212 wanted to see the nose we had of his dad's old car, as it ran at the Milwaukee Mile some 49 years ago. It was later wrecked on the RH side, but it still smells of 1976.
Artifacts aren't just things to many people. They are memories you can touch. Follow along with fellow FF racer Jeffrey Tschiltsch as he goes for the CFF win, while our Vintage FF entry, Michael Argetsinger's #21 Elden, plays along while leading the VFF class.
On Friday, we received two boxes of ephemera from Peter Argetsinger's racing life, courtesy of his better half, @cobeanhousequilts.
The assortment is vast and monumental in showcasing the talent Peter had behind the wheel and in coaching. I will post some highlights in the coming weeks. P1 today in Vintage Formula Ford, and the #21 ran with the Club Ford leaders. I think had I not missed a shift with two to go, the Elden could have taken top overall honors for the FFs.
The car came back to life after a setup change this morning, and I'm happy to say it is a rocket yet again. Albeit, a slightly sideways one! Special thanks to Werth Race Engineering, Wayne Brown at RB MotorSports Engineering, Scott Young Enterprises and of course Kettle Moraine Preservation & Restoration. The Elden and the Eagle DGF will be back out in July for the Weathertech International Challenge at Road America. Qualified P1 in Vintage Formula Ford, P3 overall for Fords in today's qualifying session.
Survived the windiest conditions we've ever had at RA. The final straw that had me pull in was coming around the Carousel turn on a quick lap, I saw the pine trees on the outside of the track start to tip over as the blast of wind came my way. The Elden nose sank down, and the tail started to come around. Luckily, I caught it and had to saw on the wheel a bit to get it pointing straight again. I'm awake, that can be said! As always, it's an honor to fly Mike's Elden. PJ has it singing this weekend. |
